"WAVUS Expands into Autonomous Driving Robot Business Powered by Digital Twin Technology

Collaboration with AR247 to Develop Robot Navigation Routes and Validate Autonomous Delivery Technology

[Prime Economy] WAVUS (KOSDAQ: 336060), a provider of integrated geospatial information solutions, announced on the 5th that it will participate in a pilot project for autonomous driving robots based on its digital twin technology.

WAVUS will take part in the field verification of navigation route data for autonomous robots under the Address-Based Autonomous Robot Utilization Expansion Model Demonstration Project, jointly promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) and the Address Information Utilization Support Center of the Korea Land and Geospatial Informatix Corporation (LX).

The company plans to complete the demonstration project in collaboration with AR247, a specialized robotics technology company serving as the lead contractor. Following the project, the two companies intend to pursue broader cooperation in the autonomous robot sector to generate long-term synergies.

AR247 previously became the first company in Korea to obtain a safety certification for outdoor mobile robots with its fully autonomous unmanned robot, developed in-house and capable of operating without centralized monitoring and control systems.

As part of the project, the two companies will conduct a pilot demonstration in which customers at an outlet shopping center can have goods purchased from stores delivered to the parking lot via autonomous delivery robots.

In particular, the project aims to establish seamless navigation routes connecting indoor and outdoor environments, including areas where Global Positioning System (GPS) signals are unavailable, and to validate the reliability and safety of robot-based delivery technologies.

Following the revision of the Road Traffic Act last year, which allows autonomous robots to operate on sidewalks, and the enforcement of legislation promoting the development and distribution of intelligent robots, autonomous robot delivery services are becoming increasingly viable in Korea.

In response to these regulatory developments, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and LX are promoting policies to expand robot utilization and foster related industries through autonomous robot pilot projects based on digital address information.

Kim Hak-sung, Chief Executive Officer of WAVUS, stated, “Leveraging approximately ten years of expertise in digital address information systems since 2014, together with our advanced digital twin technologies, we have demonstrated our technological capabilities in the autonomous robot sector. We plan to further expand our presence in this market going forward.”

Meanwhile, in December last year, WAVUS acquired the Geographic Information System (GIS) business division of Naver System, securing capabilities in geospatial data production, including aerial photography, geodetic surveying, and image processing. The company plans to utilize these capabilities to develop and manage the geospatial information required for autonomous robot navigation routes.
