Daegu Science University’s Department of Geomatics recently conducted an industry-academia collaboration program in partnership with WAVUS, a geospatial technology company.

The program was held in the university’s Geospatial Information Laboratory and was organized in collaboration with WAVUS to provide students with practical industry-oriented training.

The training program was hosted and organized by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), the Spatial Information Industry Promotion Agency, and the Korea Association of Spatial Information Industry. It was designed to cultivate practice-oriented professionals equipped with the skills required in the geospatial industry. The program featured a special lecture delivered by Oh Chung-man, Deputy Manager at WAVUS, and was attended by approximately 30 students from the Department of Geomatics.

Using Mappick, a platform developed by WAVUS, students participated in hands-on training to create web-based mapping services. Based on national geospatial information and public data, they carried out region-specific geospatial projects, including △ analysis of emergency response vulnerable areas △ thematic map creation △ design of analysis maps for various themes.

Park Ji-eun, President of Daegu Science University, said, “Industry-academia collaboration programs provide valuable opportunities for students to gain hands-on experience and strengthen their professional competencies. We will continue to actively support our students so that they can grow into highly skilled professionals who lead the development of regional industries.”

Following the program, the Department of Geomatics signed a Family Company Agreement with WAVUS. Based on this partnership, the two organizations plan to broaden cooperation in various areas, including human and material exchanges, joint curriculum development and operation, and employment linkage programs.
