WAVUS has won a contract to develop a comprehensive regional industry information system for the Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade (KIET). The project will combine geospatial technology with generative artificial intelligence to build an AI platform for the public sector.

The geospatial platform company announced on September 2 that it will carry out the project for KIET.

The project aims to integrate and manage regional industry data currently held by multiple institutions, creating an information environment that supports policymaking. Covering production, employment, investment, imports and exports, and business ecosystems, the system will enable users to monitor and analyze industry trends across metropolitan cities and provinces, as well as cities, counties, and districts.

WAVUS will deploy its proprietary geospatial platform, GeOnPaaS, and generative AI solution, GeOnAI. GeOnPaaS will organize and visualize regional industry data on maps, while GeOnAI will provide an AI-powered mapping agent that allows users to interact with the data through natural language.

Together, the two solutions will create a geographic information system (GIS) environment in which users can ask questions in everyday language. The AI will then retrieve and analyze relevant data to deliver the geospatial information and results they need.

KIET plans to expand the system’s capabilities in stages, starting with an initial pilot implementation. The first phase will establish a framework for monitoring regional industry trends and pilot AI applications. The second phase will strengthen the system’s analytical capabilities. The third phase will focus on analyzing policy effectiveness and enhancing AI-powered services to support policy formulation.

The project is part of WAVUS’s strategy to transform into an AI platform company by integrating AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs), with its proprietary geospatial technology. The company plans to extend this approach beyond geospatial information to a broader range of public-sector and industry data.
